This acquisition marks a significant upgrade from their previous MRAP, which had served the department for over a decade.

**Why Roswell PD Needed an Upgrade**

This decision was driven by maintenance challenges and difficulty sourcing parts for the aging MRAP, which was initially acquired through a federal government program and progressively became unreliable for critical operations, where dependable equipment can save lives.
The need for a new vehicle became clear following a recent critical incident, where a suspect fired multiple gunshots at officers during a response to a 911 call. While the department's MRAP played a crucial role in the tactical response, the incident underscored the importance of a modern, reliable vehicle.
